What is OurMoon?

OurMoon is a free web app where you sign up with a username, claim a plot on a real map of the Moon's south pole, name your lunar base, and site the LTEC power plant that keeps it alive. Every claim is public, so you can see everybody else's bases on the same map.

What is an LTEC plant?

Lunar Thermal Energy Conversion runs a heat engine between a surface in near-permanent sunlight and a permanently shadowed crater floor at roughly 40 K. That temperature difference is the largest passive one anywhere in the inner solar system, so it delivers high, continuous power without relying on sunlight alone. The siting cost is geometry: the hot side must sit in a peak of eternal light and the cold loop must reach a permanently shadowed region, in practice within about 10 km.

Where can I put my lunar base?

Anywhere on the south polar map that is at least 10 km clear of every existing base and LTEC plant. Your own LTEC then has to sit inside a peak of eternal light, within 10 km of a permanently shadowed region, and within 10 km of your base.

Can other people join my base?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Share your base link and anyone who opens it can sign up and join your crew, or claim their own base somewhere at least 10 km away.
